## How the calculation works

- To add VAT: amount × 1.05 = total including VAT. The VAT is amount × 0.05.
- To remove VAT: total ÷ 1.05 = amount before VAT. The VAT is the total minus that amount.

For example, AED 1,050 including VAT is AED 1,000 before VAT plus AED 50 VAT.

## When VAT isn't 5%

Some supplies are zero-rated (taxed at 0%) or exempt, including certain exports, international transport, some education and healthcare services, and some residential property. Check the Federal Tax Authority's guidance for your case.
