Overstay fine check UAE: how much you owe and how to pay

The UAE overstay fine is AED 50 for each day you stay after your visa ends. The same daily rate applies to visit, tourist and residence visas. To check your fine, use the ICP Smart Services website or the UAEICP app. If your visa was issued in Dubai, you can also use GDRFA Dubai’s fines inquiry service.

So if you stay 10 days past your last allowed day, the fine is AED 500. After 30 days it is AED 1,500.

UAE media reported in February 2026 that authorities had confirmed one flat AED 50 daily rate for all visa types. Before that, different visas used different rates.

Government fees for processing may be added when you settle the fine. The fine itself is the AED 50 daily charge.

How long is the grace period?

Visit and tourist visas usually have no grace period. Fines start the day after the visa ends, unless you extended it or changed status in time.

Residence visas get a grace period after they are cancelled or expire. For many employment and family visas this is commonly 30 days. Some long-term visas, such as Golden and Green visas, can have longer grace periods, up to 180 days in some cases.

Grace periods depend on your visa type, so do not guess. Your exact last day is on your ICP or GDRFA file. Check it before you plan your exit or your next visa.

How to check your overstay fine online

On ICP (all emirates, and visas issued outside Dubai)

Open ICP Smart Services or the UAEICP app.
Go to Fines and Leave Permits, or sign in with UAE PASS.
Choose the fine inquiry service.
Enter your details. You can usually search by file number, Emirates ID number, or passport number and nationality.
The screen shows any fines on your file. You can pay from the same page.

On GDRFA Dubai (visas issued in Dubai)

Open the GDRFA Dubai fines inquiry service or the GDRFA Dubai app.
Search by file number, Emirates ID or passport number.
Check the total, then pay online or at an Amer centre.

How to pay an overstay fine

You can pay in four main ways:

Online on ICP Smart Services or GDRFA Dubai, by card.
In the apps: UAEICP or GDRFA Dubai.
At a typing centre or Amer centre, which charge a service fee.
At the airport or border before you leave. Allow extra time if you do this.

Keep the receipt. You may need it if the fine still shows later.

Can you get an overstay fine waived or reduced?

There is no fixed discount, but ICP and GDRFA do look at waiver requests. People usually apply when they had a good reason, such as a hospital stay or a travel problem outside their control.

In March 2026, ICP waived fines for people who could not leave because UAE airspace was closed after 28 February. That waiver ended on 31 March 2026. It no longer applies.

The UAE has also run general amnesty programmes in the past, most recently in 2024. We found no general amnesty announced as of this update. Beware of agents who promise to “cancel” fines for a fee.

To ask for a waiver, apply through the ICP or GDRFA fines services, or visit a customer happiness centre. Bring proof of why you overstayed.

What happens if you don’t pay?

An unpaid fine stays on your file. It can:

stop you from leaving the UAE until you pay,
block a new visa, a visa change or a visa renewal,
lead to further legal action if the overstay is long.

The easiest fix is to pay the fine, or apply for a waiver, before you travel.

How to avoid overstay fines

Put your visa end date and your grace period end date in your phone calendar.
If you are job hunting after a cancellation, change status before the grace period ends.
If a visit visa is ending, extend it or leave on time.
